笛子领悟 - 要记得!

Something thought-provoking which Andy brought up during yesterday's lesson:

" One of the ways to setting a solid foundation for dizi playing (or any other instrument) is to succeed in mastering the basic techniques of the instrument, for example 长音, 吐音, 气震音. And the only way to achieve this is to PRACTICE, PRACTICE AND PRACTICE. There is absolutely no shortcut to this process.

However, one mustn’t forget that the ultimate aim of a musician is to be able to MAKE MUSIC. Mastering basic techniques alone, will not allow a musician to create good music. A great piece of music occurs only when the audience is able to feel the complete depth of emotions which the composer had wanted them to experience. And although it is imperative that musicians must first master the basic techniques of the instrument in this long journey, it also takes a certain level of musical talent, as well as huge amounts of music exposure and experience, for a dizi player to be truly considered a real musician.

Unfortunately, unlike the 基本功夫, one can never gain talent or exposure through many hours of practice alone. But no matter what, one should still strive to 打好基础 first, before thinking of bringing his/her dizi skills to another level and dimension."
