A Bountiful Harvest
I went shopping for presents with ET last Saturday. We were SO efficient, cos we managed to grab 3 presents in the short span of 3 hours! They were all within budget, and oh so absolutely wonderful presents (hah, self praise!). But seriously, we both loved the gifts and felt that they were extremely 'appropriate' for our birthday girls. Hee hee! But of course all this WORK made us so tired and hungry that we had our dinner at the unearthly hour of 5.30pm. I couldn't help it, but my stomach was already churning from all the excessive gastric juices by the time it was 5pm. Attracted by their Chilli Crab 小笼包 poster (created in conjunction with this year's Food Festival), we made our way to the 鼎太丰 at Paragon's. After waiting for around 20 minutes, the elusive 小笼包 finally arrived at our table.
At the first bite, I was rather disappointed to NOT detect any spiciness in the meat and 汤汁, and plus, the crab was ALMOST non-existent at all. It just tasted like a more mashed up version of the original pork 小笼包. ET remarked "it's supposed to be like that one lar", but she too could not taste the 辣味 at all. After gobbling down 2 (and ET 1), we decided to just try out luck and ask the waitress if they've made a mistake, or if its REALLY supposed to be like this. One thing I must comment about the restaurant is that the servers are really quite a friendly and helpful lot. They even have one waitress dedicated to refilling the tea and water of every customer! That's what I call Thoughtful Service (how many restaurants have this?).
Anyway, the waitress who came to us took a look at the 'suspicious' chilli crab 小笼包, and commented that she also thinks its a mistake as the real chilli crab dumplings have a reddish tinge on the skin. So she checked with the kitchen and confirmed out suspicions. They gave us another full 6 pieces of the REAL chilli crab 小笼包 and this time, 真的是有辣味 lah (but to me still taste like mashed up pork with 辣椒油 in it). Nothing really fantastic (though their pork chop is oh so so so TASTY!!!)...I still think the original one tastes better (and cheaper some more!). But thumbs up for the excellent service....and this is during the time when the restaurant was throughly packed!
Ok enough about food, I'm going hungry again just thinking about their succulent pork chops and fried rice. I received another piece of good news this morning. Andy IS NOT GOING TO SHANGHAI AFTER ALL!!! He mentioned the school fees were absolutely horrendous (I tell you, the amount can buy at least 2 cars here), so he decided to give it a miss. Actually a bit sad hor, cos he got so much talent, and had already passed the auditions. But if Andy's not going anymore, this means that I would not to study under Master Zhan liao! You cannot imagine how RELIEVED I was to hear that. I cannot even bear to think how it would be like, to be Master Zhan's student...extremely nerve-wrecking and even more stressful probably!
But hor, during our lesson today, Andy's phone kept ringing and he talked a short while to someone (his teacher probably) in Mandarin, and it appeared like his teacher is still trying very hard to get him there lar. So I'm not keeping my hopes too high now, JUST in case he decides to go after all.
I suddenly feel I'm very mean leh.....I should be hoping that he gets to go, and not rejoicing at the fact that he cannot now.
Bad me!

Actually, I don't really like Ding Tai Feng's food. I find the fried rice a tad too oily and the xiao long baosss taste almost the same after a while. Hehee...
