Baking Weekend

Nice? This cake is called the Serious Orange Cake, and I received the recipe from my choir friend LAL who has this nice habit of browsing food and recipe blogs in her free time (of course she also likes to cook lar!). Its extremely easy to bake (REALLY!!! I promise!) and the result is a tangy, fruity, moist and fragrant buttery cake. My sis and dad liked it, but my mom found it a tad sour. I was rather surprised that it turned out so much better than I expected. Cos the recipe calls for a food processor to turn the orange into a smoothie like substance. I didn't have the required processor, so had used the only juicer I could find in my home. And plus, I did not have Cointreau, the orangey liquor. My mom suggested I used her XO as a substitute. But like quite weird leh, orange XO cake. Yeeeks. Despite all that, I'm still rather satisfied with the result. For those interested, the simple recipe can be found here. =)
Attended another of Valerie's cooking class on Friday. This time, the cakes taught were
Strawberry Cheese Dessert and the Triple Indulgence. The latter is actually a 3 layered cheese cake which is also called the 'Big O' found in NYDC. Cool huh? Its a oreo biscuit base, with cheese middle and topped with chocolate fudge. Sounds so sinful (and taste pretty sinful too!). The picture on the right is the Strawberry cheese cake. So pretty hor? Its actually a digestive biscuit base, with cheese middle and a half strawberry, then topped with strawberry jello. YUMMY!!!! I like this more than the triple indulgence, more fruity mah. And it looks so good! Valerie joked during the class that even if the result is not as delicious as planned, it must still be pretty and nice to look at. =P Both cakes require much more preparation and baking steps than the previous Walnut Cake and Strawberry Shortcake. But the interesting thing was that this Strawberry Cheese cake doesn't even require baking at all! You just need to get the cake set inside the fridge. Cool huh? I can't wait get started on this recipe. =)

Snowystars: Glad you can view my blog liaoz!! Heh heh...I'm also not sure why the cake is called Serious Orange cake...maybe the person who created the recipe wants his orange cake to be taken seriously!! =)
Teddy: Ok lah, next time I bake again I bring some for you. Usually when I bake anything for the first time, there'll just be enough for my family and nephews.. =)
