师傅师傅, 我要下山, 可以吗?
This is absolutely profound. Andy informed me today that by learning flute techniques from him, I have effectively come under the 浙江派 of 笛子功. This is quite an exclusive school of technique, and is only passed down through lineage (whatever that means), according to him. This also means that in Chinese music, the musicians do not usually follow that strictly to the scores as they are written. More often than not, they will apply their schools' techniques to the music and play it accordingly. Which further means, a piece of music may sound differently when its being played by flutists of different schools.
I'm definitely hearing this for the very first time.
And it sounds like he is passing down some very secretive 武林秘籍 to me. But quite interesting lar, and made me feel extremely important also. Haha
But my lessons are definitely not getting easier. Hai...
