No other words to describe lar....simply 一级棒!!
I was nearly 迟到 that day, not for the concert though, but late in meeting Andy to get the concert tickets. Cos we did not have lessons last week (he had fever), so bo bian had to get it from him on Sunday itself. Wah, he had this big white patch of makeup on him....look so fake and operatic...haha.
I was later joined by my sister and cousin for the performance, and suay suay bumped into my former dizi teacher who taught me at NTU eons ago. Wah lau....I immediately had to slip away quietly to some obscure corner cos paiseh to tell him I'm now learning flute from another teacher. Of course you would say that he may not remember me lah, cos like I've mentioned, it was at least 7 years ago. But these musicians hor, their memory is known to be super fantastic one, so I thought better not risk it. But damn so 巧 la!
The first half of the show were solo performances put up by the younger flutists, which includes Andy, and I believe all 4 performers are former students of 詹永明. No need to say lah....all of them were so great (but I still think Andy's performance was the best..haha...not only me hor, my sis also feels the same) that my goose pimples kept popping up during the entire show. This always happens when I'm watching something which inspires or 感动 me a lot. It kind of makes me sad too, to know that I'll never be able to achieve that in my ENTIRE life. But that's perfectly fine lah, cos it was never my aim to master the instrument till this kind of level anyway. I think I'll have to quit my job and devote full time to dizi for that type of achievement!
The 2nd part was of course, even more marvellous lah. Andy's teacher, together with 2 other well-known flutists took turns to perform with the chinese orchestra and even though there was only 1 flute present in each piece, you could still hear it bright and clear among all the other instruments. Although most of the song titles were really quite foreign to me (very cheem also), it was nice to just sit there and soak into the chinese music atmosphere and see young talents performing their best.
But my favourite part? They really do leave the best for the last. All the young performers, including Andy (who I think is the oldest among them), and plus a couple of very very small kids, all boys dressed in smart long sleeve shirts and black pants (very very cute!!), performed together with one of the well-known flutists in this piece that had no other instruments but the dizi. It was just 纯粹 pure dizi music and so so impressive that the entire hall was absolutely silent during this final piece. PHWA!!! It made me wish that I had learnt the dizi from young leh!! Suddenly, I felt that Chinese music is so much more interesting and captivating than the western classical music I had learnt from young. And also suddenly, I felt very proud of being a Chinese....that we can actually produce such wonderful music which can easily rival the more well-known western classics!
Absolutely jaw-dropping amazing.
