Know your life history for US$126

Wah….seems like many people are also like me, paying big bucks (=S$210) to find out who our ancestors are, where they originated from, the travel routes they took in search for a better life, etc etc. If you’re still 摸不着头脑 as to what the world I’m talking about, then let me kindly enlighten you.

The National Geographic Society (I hope I got the name right….anyway, it’s the one related to the nature magazine and TV documentary programmes on cable) recently started a Genographic Project , where for a ‘small’ sum of US$126, you receive a kit that comprises of some VCD telling you about the project, and some swab equipment which you then use to collect your DNA samples (from your mouth apparently), and send the samples back to the National Geographic Society. There, they have an entire team of scientists all ready to dissect your saliva samples, and then attempt to use that to trace your ancestors and find out more about them lar, basically. Which means, it’ll be cool to know, that skali besides being Chinese, I may also have some European/Indian/or even some Japanese blood in me!! Wouldn’t that be utterly smashing? Was talking to Teddy about it the other day, and it seemed that he reckoned he could have some African DNA in him…..well…good luck to you then, my friend.

Since I was already saving up money to get that pair of really divine Miss Sixty jeans (which was around the same price as the kit), I thought, might as well use that money to know more about where I came from lar. Hwah….yesterday I received a second email from the Society that because of overwhelming popularity, their kit is now currently out of stock and would take 4-6 days to be available again. See….so popular leh….no joke. I now cannot wait to get my hands on it.

Then I saw the news just now, which nearly gave me a heart attack. You know about the problem on the master credit cards, where many of the card owners’ particulars are being stolen and used to make fake cards? The news reported that card users who had ever made transactions in US, or on US online sites are the ones who are more susceptible to this security breach….and I JUST made the purchase of the kit leh!!! Please just 杀了我吧!! BUT BUT….before I started screaming, I saw that it referred to transactions made between NOV 2004 – MAY 2005. So PHEW….I’m safe. But for any of you who falls into this category, do take note ok? It is quite a big deal, having your identity stolen to make fake cards. No joke. Serious.
