Fulfilling my teaching desire

Fulfilling my teaching desire - Part I
I’ve recently started giving aerobics classes to my colleagues who had lost their usual aerobics instructor due to a constant low class attendance rate. The idea originally started as a joke, but it turned out they really wanted to continue their classes, and they absolutely did not mind whether or not I was professionally trained and certified. It seemed like a crazy suggestion to me at first, coz I consider myself as still quite an aerobics novice and, lets face it, would I really possess enough stamina to teach an aerobics class????? Being able to endure an aerobics lesson is one thing, going through the whole aerobics routine AND speaking (or even shouting) instructions at the same time is an entirely different experience! I really wasn’t sure I could manage it, but seeing my colleagues being so enthusiastic and supportive, I decided to give it a go.
The next few days were spent poring over all the aerobics websites I could find and deciding on the appropriate movements and routines for my new students. When I was attending my own aerobics lessons, besides going through the routines and blindly following my instructors, I tried to memorise all the movements and the number of repetitions for each routine. Wah….if you’ve never done it, you really would not know how much 学问 it takes to design just one aerobics class. The instructors not only know their routines very well, they are also very au fait with the body structure and know exactly which movements that will make certain parts of the body work hard. Of course lah….professionally trained mah. Me…..I gathered all these from the Internet, newspapers, fitness magazines, etc etc….which was good, coz I can finally locate where my hamstrings, quadriceps, soleus, etc are. =P
Choosing the appropriate music…another big big issue. Usually, you need to have 3 different types of music for one aerobics class, namely for the warm-up session, the actual workout, and the cooling down session. And all need to be non-stop music some more. Quite difficult to find man….coz most of the non-stop music on the market are all those disco, trance, euro hits, etc. Quite beng-ish leh….dunno if my auntie colleagues can accept or not. But boh bian lah….cannot afford to get those real aerobics music….they are so expensive! I went to ask my aerobics studio how much they are selling the CDs, the answer was a whopping $40 plus for EACH CD!!! My eyes nearly popped out when I heard that, coz here, I was telling myself I may consider buying from the studio if it cost around $15 plus per CD. Hah Hah! Fat hope, I guess. So for the time being, my colleagues just have to bear with the beng-ish hits, coz their instructor broke and lazy to search for more music. =P
Ok..realise this blog entry is getting a bit too long for comfort….......so b4 any of you start clicking on the other blog links, I think I better leave my first aerobics lesson to the next blog entry. Till then, happy clicking….
