The Peaceful Christmas countdown
Heh heh...that is how I would describe my Christmas Eve's outing with my hostel kakis....we did nothing shocking or out of the ordinary. It was just a very pleasant gathering, which was mainly spent chatting (a lot!) and playing bridge (a lot too!). The only slightly more interesting activity last night, was our first visit to the famous Hong Kong dessert chain 许留山, and us catching 功夫 by 周星驰 at Lido 1.
Firstly, we wouldn't have gone to 许留山 if it hadn't been my ex-toilet mate's enthusiasm towards trying out the desserts there. She and another hostel kaki of mine had recently gone to HK and had a very good experience with the dessert shop there. I've tried it last year when our choir went to HK for our first overseas performance. Frankly, I felt it was just ok lah....nothing really amazing or memorable. In fact, they reminded me of the bubble tea chain shops which were so popular here years ago. But since we had nothing to do yesterday between 0930pm and 1215am (it was absolutely too crowded on the Orchard streets to go milling around....we were afraid we wouldn't be able to squeeze through the crowds in time to catch our show), so we decided to give it a try. To our mild surprise, we came to know that it was the shop's opening day yesterday! Quite a coincidence, I would say! We found ourselves a seat, and proceeded to order the drinks and desserts. Well, what followed after that, is was I would described as a minor mayhem.....most of the orders were badly mixed up, and some of the customers definitely sported black faces too! The servers were quite panicky, to the extent that I felt a bit sorry for them. Fortunately, my order came quite speedily, but the rest of my gang had to wait quite a while for their mango sago drinks. And we also came to the conclusion that the shop couldn't have chosen a worse day for their opening day! Rightfully, we felt that they should open on a less busy day, where their servers can get the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the menu and table nos. I could understand their panic when the orders started getting mixed up, cos I was also once a waitress, and this type of situation is a real nightmare! Luckily for me, my employer had to good sense to make us practice our waitressing skills on one another, b4 letting us do the real serving job in front of real customers. To top it all, there were these 2 extremely 八卦 women seated behind us, who kept discussing which server is doing things wrongly, which table they mixed up, where the orders were supposed to be, etc etc. Aiyoh....really couldn't stand them!
After the desserts, we did our countdown (the usual 10, 9, ....3,2,1, stuff....and trying not to kena those crazy people who were spraying can snow all over everyone) on the streets, and then proceeded for our movie. Interestingly, we were still able to get fairly good seats, despite buying the tickets only a few hours in advance. Lucky! The movie....well....only can use one word to describe.......A MUST-WATCH!!!! Its not only hilarious, but the kungfu is also quite impressive (I'm not referring to those computer effects, but the real 武打场面. The show is not named 功夫 for nothing! ). Ok, so there's not really a plot seen anywhere, but I would still say its a well worth movie. The only complaint I have, is that its too short! Think the movie didn't even last 1 and a half hours. Stephen Chow is still the best comedy king I know, and 功夫 is even better than his Shaolin Soccer. I loved the movie! Will definitely grab the DVD once it comes out! And all you guys who hasn't seen it, pls pls, go watch it!!!! PLEASE!!! And the music in the movie is just simply funny! They used mainly those very retro Chinese wayang music, and if you love 华乐 as much as me, you will also like the OST too! =D
