Mooncake frenzy

Mooncake frenzy

Once again, the festival of lanterns are upon us, and the sale of mooncakes is becoming hot hot!! I went down to Taka the other day, to grab a box of the pastry, which I was afraid would not be available if I went later. Another reason is that my mum would be leaving for her overseas tour this Sat...and by the time she returns a week later, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be much left in the market. I like to try new brands each year...and this time, I had wanted to buy the one offered by HuaTing restaurant (Orchard Hotel). Their newest mooncakes are in the shape of chinese chess pieces, but the entire set costs $118!!! I've heard quite good reviews of the restaurant's food, so I thought their mooncakes should most probably be of quite superior quality. But $118...that's still a bit too much....hmmm...mabbe they got offer just half a set one?? =)

Anyway, I stuck to last year's choice, which I must recommend its definitely 'thumbs-up' quality!! Its called Kee Wah....I know, it doesn't sound quite so delicious...but trust me...its GOOD!!! I like the fact that, when I bite into the mooncake, it taste very moist and very hao wei dao! Very good lotus paste, and the yolks taste very fresh too!!! My mum used to insist that I buy the 4 yolks one....but fortunately...this year, she suggested getting the double yolks one...cos she's very mindful over her cholesterol and blood pressure levels now. Which is also good for me, cos the difference in price between the two is a hefty $12!!! Heh heh...can save more $$$..anyway, this Kee Wah very elusive one....only sold at the mooncake fair at Taka this year. Every year, I got to call the local distributor and enquire where they sell their mooncakes. But guess good food is always worth all the extra effort!! =)
