First encounter with Jaycee

First encounter with Jaycee

It was really a last minute decision...to watch The Twins Effect II (Big Battle of Hua Du) starring our new big star, son of superstar Jackie Chan, Jaycee Chan. Usually, I don't give up my $8.50 to watch a movie made in HK, as their shows most often turn up in VCDs (legal ones, mind you) quite immediately after their movies are screened in cinemas...so if one just have the patience, one can get a better deal buying the VCDs, as more often than not, many of the HK movies do not have to be seen in the cinemas to get the better picture. However, as this is our Jaycee's first show, and he seemed quite a decent guy when he came here earlier on to promote his movie, I thought...why not? And since it was rumoured to have some good special effects, and also since I missed the first installment of the show, I thought I should at least catch the second part.

Ok, the show began around 9.45pm and ended 11.30pm. I was quite tired already, when it started (I had a long day, and remember? I went for aerobics in the morning..and no afternoon nap too!! So proud of myself!!). So, how do I give it a fair review?? Yawned a few times during the show, but on the whole, I guess its still a 'OK' show....but I still think I should have watched it on a VCD. I thought the real big stars in the show were The Twins.....real eye candy! So youthful and pretty...watching them makes me wanna join them in their amateurish kung-fu fighting. I felt Jaycee did not really get a chance to show his true potential in acting...too much focus on the Twins. But then again, I guess a kung fu show is not exactly a good place for one to show his/her acting skills. Special effects were also ok...nothing real impressive though. Plus, thought the fighting scene between Donny Yen (loved him, btw) and Jackie Chan was quite unnecessary....they didn't even find out each other's identity...and they started fighting the minute they set eyes on one another....quite a waste of time, I felt. Think fighting should be reserved between the obvious good and bad guys....more exciting this way...at least I know who to root for....

By and by, go watch this if you are a big big fan of The Twins....or if like me, you wanna catch more than a glimpse of Jaycee (and yes, I think he's better looking than his dad). If I had the time to think properly, I might have chosen to watch The Stepford Wives or Collateral instead...but nvm...its good to give fellow Asian films some support once in a while.

Oh yes, just another note....Jaycee is quite a good singer! I caught his song a few times on the radio, and I must say, I was quite surprised when the DJ announced that the singer of that particular song was him....quite a soothing voice......
