Mr. LWF's amazing compositions

Mr. LWF's amazing compositions

Currently listening to LWF, or better known as Liang Wern Fook's CD and find myself really falling in love over his song lyrics! Simple lyrics, but so meaningful and poetic! I'm sure most of you out there who grew up in the 70s and 80s listening to Mandarin Pop would not be unfamiliar with this wonderful composer who hails from our small island of Xin Jia Po! In the past, he used to write and sing very simple folk songs (simple enough that my mum could also understand). But in the 90s, he stopped singing, and was more involved in writing songs for pop icons such as Jacky Cheung and Kit Chan (my sis says he also writes excellent Mandarin San Wen). Recently, my sis bought another copy of his san wen and it came with a CD that comprises of most of his works ranging from 80s to the recent years. I esp liked one track titled 'Contact Lens' (ying xing yan jing). The melody is beautiful, and I loved it the moment I first heard it (I usually go for the melody first). Then I found out the lyrics and also quite good! He likens love to a pair of contact lens, protecting the lover's eyes from tears and sorrow. One esp interesting passage goes something like this (ok, my Mandarin not very excellent lah):

My love is like a pair of contact lens
protecting you, preventing you from crying
To allow you to see clearly
What the meaning of the right to be happy (xin fu) is

So touching! And the singer is quite good too, except that I haven't quite figure out who she is. Hope they have this song in the KTV.....
